Community Teaching Group - A Living Example of PSR

Community Teaching Group (CTG) is an informal group of 50 +house wives transformed intoa teachers in Hiranadani Estate and its surrounding areas. It is engaged in transforming lives of unprivileged children through their educational endeavor.

During Lockdown the teacher volunteers used digital media to reach out to the students from poor families in Patli Pada. Dongri Pada, King Kon Nagar labour colonies, Azad Nagar etc in Thane district of Maharsahtra. They are operating different programs passionately undertaken by teachers mostly qualified ladies. These programs are –

Anna Dan – Support 300 families from the above mentioned areas. Rs 600/ worth ration is  provided to needy families. This ensure that in these areas no child misses meals.

Vidya Daan – Volunteer teachers started teaching all students through digital media like WhatsApp, Zoom and Google Meet.

Gyan DaanSharing online newspapers in three languages viz. Marathi (local language), Hindi and English and alsoencouraging them to read and write headlines in their respective class through WhatsApp groups.

Free Internet – Students engaged in Vidya Daan, Gyan Daan and many more learning and skill developmentactivities are supported through online recharge of their mobiles.

Other Associated Activities: Various Online activities like drawing and painting, storytelling, indoor games and Yogasana are constantly keeping the students in good spirit. On June 21, Yoga Day Online-competition on Suryanamskaar was organized and it was participated by more than 120 students.


Distribution of text-books and notebooks to these students for academic session 2020-21 has started. Making sure that these students continue their education is Personal Social Responsibility (PSR) of society, specially educated class.

Encouragements: Hundred percent target students passed Tenth Board Exam results for the academic year 2019-2020. Out of these marks secured by First, Second and Third toppers are  95%, 89.2% and 84% respectively, while many of them scored more than 75%.

Teachers of the group are volunteering to assisting in Online admissions in FYJC to students associated with the group and many other underprivileged students of surrounding slums. Total form filled are 124 together with the payment of registration fee of Rs 255 for 35 students. This procedure is being followed up by voluntary teachers in the group.

The group is proud of calling Shiva Pandey as a CovidWarrior, a student of class 10th, who during lockdown was packing food packets and distributing them to the people in need in Thane area.

Shri B. Vardarajan (B.V.Rajan) [(M): 8860700875, (WhatsApp): 8452807788], a successful IT Professional Electronics and Communication (E&C) graduate from Government Engineering College, Batch 1972, inspired with the sense of PSR, initiated the CTG.  He appeals to the elite section of the society to join the movement to uplift unprivileged. This can be done by – (1) Donating books, (2) Join as a volunteer teacher Online/Off-line classes from 7th to 12th.
