Did Not See This Coming…

(Wit at Courtroom)

Sham Nadgonde

One of my lawyer friends narrated this incident about Supreme Court Judge, Justice Tuljapurkar.

During initial days of his career, young Tuljapurkar was an Advocate at Bombay High Court. He was well known for the thorough knowledge of the law and the perfect way he used to put forth his arguments blending them with a bit of wit. And though, sometimes he used to take some time to make his statement, even the judges used to patiently wait and give a keen attention to his pleadings.

One day when he was defending a suit, he submitted All India Reporter’s reference book, quoting a previous case & decision of Supreme Court. Book was pegged with bookmarks for pages referenced.

Honorable Judge, while going through the references, found a bug on a page of the book. He jovially mocked the lawyer saying, ‘look gentleman, there is a bug here in your book’. At this, entire assembly in the courtroom burst with laughter.

Mr Tuljapurkar waited for laughter to calm down, and said, ‘Sir, some have even reached the Chair’. And the courtroom was roaring with a thunder of laughter. The Judge took a moment to understand the catch, and soon after he too joined the group laughing.
