Biology Fun Fact:
Why Eating Less Carbohydrates Leads To Weight Loss?
Natchya Tiwari
It is a general belief that if we eat less fat, it will help us to lose our weight. But the fact is that when we do so, it does not result so. In fact, the thing that makes us gain weight is the carbohydrates.
Carbohydrates are naturally found in milk, fruits and vegetables. These carbohydrates are healthier to eat than processed carbohydrates found in foods like juices, candies, cake, sugar etc. Carbohydrates are a group of foods that is digested very quickly by our body and is used immediately as energy. They are digested first in our body followed by fat and then protein. That’s the reason why people who are on diet-control prefer eating proteins more. Proteins are used last to form energy, so our body uses the carbohydrates and fat that are found in our body as much as possible before using protein, which makes carbohydrates and fats level in our body decreases.
Our body has many systems that regulate how much weight we gain, but there is one major storage hormone in the body, insulin. Insulin’s functions are quite complicated. Its most important responsibility is to store energy we eat for later-on use and the more we store the more weight we gain.
